Acetic acid

Acetic acid, also called acetic acid, is an organic compound. The chemical formula CH3COOH is an organic monic acid, which is the main component of vinegar. Pure anhydrous acetic acid (glacial acetic acid) is a colorless hygroscopic liquid with a freezing point of 16.6℃ (62℉). After solidification, it becomes a colorless crystal. Its aqueous solution is weakly acidic and highly corrosive, which has a strong corrosive effect on metals.

Applications of Acetic Acid
1. Chemical Raw Materials: Acetic acid is an important raw material for the synthesis of many organic compounds, such as vinyl acetate

(used in polymers and coatings), acetate esters (such as ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, used as solvents), and cellulose acetate (used in

the manufacture of filter media, film, and rayon).
2. Food Industry: Used as a food additive (food-grade acetic acid), a flavoring agent, and a preservative (e.g., the main component of vinegar).
3. Pharmaceutical Industry: Used in the synthesis of drugs such as aspirin and phenylbutazone, and after dilution, used for cleaning and

sterilization purposes.
4. Dyeing and Textiles: Used as a dyeing auxiliaries, pH regulator, and acidifier in dye synthesis and dyeing processes.
5. Plastics and Rubber: Vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) is the basis for the manufacture of polymer materials such as polyvinyl alcohol and

emulsions.
6. Agriculture: Used as a pesticide intermediate to adjust soil pH and as a component of herbicides (high-concentration acetic acid).
7. Cleaning Agents and Solvents: Used as a descaling agent in both household and industrial settings, and is commonly used for cleaning
